Attorney Meghan Kelly-Stallings attends the 2014 AILA National Conference
June 17, 2014 – Associate Attorney Meghan Kelly-Stallings attended the 2014 National Conference of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) in Boston, MA. The four-day conference included tracks on family-based and business-focused immigration law, as well as removal defense and trial advocacy. Later this month, Meghan will give a presentation on what she learned at the National Conference to members of the Washington AILA chapter.
Gregory Cromwell and Amy Meharry speak at Director’s Training session
On Thursday June 19th, HIP partner attorney Gregory Cromwell and associate attorney Amy Meharry presented information and answered questions for over fifty directors of Homeowner’s and Condominium Associations (HOAs) at a Director’s Training session sponsored by Around the Clock, Inc., a property management company located in Kent. The seminar was held at the Kent Senior Center. The approximate two-hour presentation covered topics of interest to HOAs including issues such as Fair Housing Act discrimination involving Rules pertaining to children, the preparation of concise, proper Board meeting minutes, a legislative update on use of electronic transmission of notices for owners’ meetings and the requirement that annual owners’ meeting minutes be available to owners within 60 days of the meeting date, case law updates on recent Court decisions affecting Associations, how to effectively and properly handle owners’ records access requests; an overview of collection tools and the legal process for handling collection matters; and some of the latest issues regarding how the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act applies to assessment collection for Associations. Their presentation was followed by a Q&A session where the attending directors were able to ask and get answers to many other questions on issues of interest to their Association. The event was very successful and appreciated by the attendees who actively participated in the event through their questions and discussions with Greg and Amy.
South King County Bar Association Emerald Downs Event
June 20th, 2014, the South King County Bar Association (SKCBA) held its annual event at the Emerald Downs race track where the year’s incoming officers and directors are sworn.
Hanis Irvine Prothero Associate and 2013-2014 SKCBA President, Erik Olsen, handed the presidential torch off to HIP Associate, Jorge Ramos. The event included a colorful swearing-in oath, conducted by retired King County Superior Court Judge Jay White.
In attendance at the event were other local attorneys from South King County, Judges and several employees from Hanis Irvine Prothero. Over the years, several attorneys from Hanis Irvine Prothero have served in various officer and director positions in the South King County Bar Association including Patrick Hanis (President 2007-2008) Brian Hanis (President 2009-2010), Amy Meharry (President 2010-2011), and Greg Girard (Director – Present)
