SKCBA Phil Biege Memorial Open Golf Tournament 2014

July 25, 2014 – For over 50 years the South King County Bar Association has held the Phil Biege Memorial Open Golf Tournament.  This year’s event was held on Friday, July 25, at Riverbend Golf Course in Kent.  Organized by Greg Girard, partner in the law firm of Hanis Irvine Prothero, the tournament featured 50 players, many of whom were members of the South King County bar and bench.  Included in the group was a large contingent of hackers from HIP Law Firm.  With near perfect weather and great company everyone had a wonderful time despite the quality of their golf.  John Curry won the overall championship, shooting a 78 and Judge Richard McDermott won the award as the best golfer wearing a robe.

Gregory Cromwell and Amy Meharry speak at Director’s Training session

On Thursday June 19th,  HIP partner attorney Gregory Cromwell and associate attorney Amy Meharry presented information and answered questions for over fifty directors of Homeowner’s and Condominium Associations (HOAs) at a Director’s Training session sponsored by Around the Clock, Inc., a property management company located in Kent.  The seminar was held at the Kent Senior Center. The approximate two-hour presentation covered topics of interest to HOAs including issues such as Fair Housing Act discrimination involving Rules pertaining to children, the preparation of concise, proper Board meeting minutes, a legislative update on use of electronic transmission of notices for owners’ meetings and the requirement that annual owners’ meeting minutes be available to owners within 60 days of the meeting date, case law updates on recent Court decisions affecting Associations, how to effectively and properly handle owners’ records access requests; an overview of collection tools and the legal process for handling collection matters; and some of the latest issues regarding how the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act applies to assessment collection for Associations. Their presentation was followed by a Q&A session where the attending directors were able to ask and get answers to many other questions on issues of interest to their Association.  The event was very successful and appreciated by the attendees who actively participated in the event through their questions and discussions with Greg and Amy.
